Valve’s massive hit handheld PC, the Steam Deck, has been with us since its release in 2022. The nifty little device has changed the flow of the gaming industry.
Gamers can now play their beloved Steam games anywhere, from their beds, toilets, office pantries, and train rides. The Steam Deck made PC gaming anywhere possible.
Here is our list of the Top 10 games you can play on your Steam Deck. Note that some of them require online, but you need to be online when connecting to Steam anyway.
Let’s round up the best games you can play on your Steam Deck (or whatever handheld PC you have right now )
Washed advice: BUY THE GAMES ON SALE! THIS IS STEAM WE ARE TALKING ABOUT!
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor
This action RPG from Games Workshop had a rocky start during its initial release. Some reported that Inquisitor was unplayable due to bugs, and some complained there was nothing to do in this hack-and-slash game.
As years went by, updates and fixes were made to Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor and the result was pretty decent.
The game now has almost endless content as long as you bought the complete edition. AI enemies are now more competent, and there is now an actual goal to the game.
Playing this on Steam Deck is more accessible than playing it on a PC. Though some struggle with the text size in-game, it’s still massively fun to destroy Chaos Space Marines and Tyranids!
State of Decay 2
Now, this is one of those games that will get you hooked for a while, especially with buddies! Just like Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor, State of Decay 2 also had a rocky start until Undead Labs made crucial updates and fixes to improve things.
State of Decay 2 is a survival/strategy co-op-shooter game where you build settlements and watch over your people, ensuring they are well-fed and well-defended against zombie hordes.
The best part of State of Decay 2 is playing with your friends! Your friends can help you do anything in the game. Loot, defend, and even share items to survive the zombie hordes.
State of Decay 2 is even more fun on the Steam Deck since you can play this in a coffee shop with friends. No need for those pesky headsets! Just shout excitedly until the Starbucks manager asks you to leave the coffee shop!
Vampire Survivors
It’s the most complicated, simple game ever made! You will need two things in Vampire Survivors: the left thumbstick and a bit of insanity.
Vampire Survivors is a survival game where you must get through hordes of night creatures. All you have to do is move around the map, use your wits and alertness to avoid enemies and pray that you won’t get hit!
You don’t need to press any buttons besides using the thumbsticks since your character already does the attacking for you; you just need to hone your movement skills, and you’re good to go. You will need to upgrade your characters to last a little longer until the Grim Reaper shows up. Yeah, that’s how you win the game. By dying!
Vampire Survivors is a perfect game for the Steam Deck. It’s fun, especially if you just need to kill time. It’s really addictive, and it consumes less battery than most games.
This game uses old sprite graphics reminiscent of the old Castlevania games to the point that it almost looks like a parody of the famous Konami side-scrolling game. Trust us, Vampire Survivors is a MUST-HAVE on your Steam Deck!
Tekken 8
If you’re on a tight budget, I would get Tekken 7 on Steam sale, but Tekken 8 still looks excellent on the Steam Deck. With the new fight assist system on this latest Tekken title, the control ergonomics of the Steam Deck is perfect for the job.
Tekken 8’s fight assist is now easier to use than the one from 7. You can execute air juggle easily by pressing the same button repeatedly, and it looks fantastic, too! Though this might be a laughing stock for veteran players, this new system works well on the Steam Deck.
Tekken 8 is excellent for passing some time on the go!
Bloodstained
Metroidvania has been with us since 1997, with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as the catalyst for the genre. Bloodstained was created by none other than the Igavania man himself, Koji Igarashi.
This current-gen side-scrolling action RPG game has been storming gaming consoles since 2019.
Bloodstained plays excellently on the Steam Deck and is probably the best Metroidvania to date. Exploring the castle, grinding for levels, and collecting weapons has never been fun like this on the go. This non-Konami game gave us the bug to 100% its Steam achievements since Bloodstained’s replayability is virtually endless.
This game is also available on the Switch, but we all know that getting it on Steam Sale is the cheapest and best option!
Street Fighter 6
Street Fighter is a mandatory fighting game for all generations, and we just couldn’t leave it off the list.
Street Fighter 6 is a vast improvement from its predecessor and looks perfect on the Steam Deck. With its fluid animations and color splashes on screen, Street Fighter 6 sure does showcase the Deck’s capabilities.
The only problem here is the D-Pad. The directional buttons on the Steam Deck feel strange, and it’s hard to execute special moves. Doing a hadouken is a chore, and you have to get used to it to play well.
Thankfully, the Steam Deck has pretty nifty thumbsticks that do the job. It might get a little frustrating initially for a seasoned gamer used to using directional pads, but it’s worth it! Even when at full price, Street Fighter 6 is worth every penny.
Resident Evil Games
The new Resident Evil titles, such as the remakes and the on-rail shooters, are a godsend for the Steam Deck. Yes, technically this isn’t just a single entry, but we couldn’t pick just one!
You can play all Resident Evil games at 60 fps; just make sure Ray Tracing mode is turned off to get the full frame rate available. Since you’re playing on a handheld, you’ll barely notice the Ray Tracing effect anyway.
Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil Village are the best of the bunch and have tons of replayability, and the Steam Deck can handle these games without a hitch.
Helldivers 2
For Democracy! Helldivers 2 is now the most-played online co-op shooter game on Steam and PS5.
In Helldivers 2, you play as one of the soldiers for Super Earth, defending the planet from bugs and automatons (the killer robots).
Now we know what you’re thinking: this is an online game. Well, yes, and that’s the best part: connecting the Steam Deck to your phone’s Wi-Fi hotspot is effortless, and it can get you online anytime you want!
Helldivers 2 is slightly demanding in graphics but not impossible for the deck. You may need to sacrifice some quality to get a proper playable framerate, but all is worth it, especially if you play it with friends. Like State of Decay 2, you can also play this anywhere and hang out with your friends while defending Super Earth!
Elden Ring
Soulsborne games have been with us for quite a while now, and to be perfectly honest, Elden Ring has perfected the genre with a huge, enjoyable open world to explore—yes, just like Skyrim, but more on the masochist side of things.
Elden Ring also offers diverse types of enemies. Some are impossibly hard, and others are just frustrating.
Elden Ring looks extremely good on the deck despite the hardware demands.
FromSoftware did a neat job optimizing this Soulsborne game; almost any system, including the Steam Deck, can run it. Getting pummeled by sadistic bosses can be frustratingly fun on the go.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Now, we are at number 1 on our list. This is perhaps the best game you can have on your Steam Deck, and I think we can all agree.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has been in the Steam library since 2019, and today, people are still enjoying the West as Arthur Morgan.
Nobody cares if they pay full price for a 2019 game since Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of Rockstar’s best games ever.
Now that this open-world Western action game is Steam Deck verified, anybody who owns this on Steam can rob trains, take bounties, watch plays on Saint-Denis or just get drunk in a saloon on the go.
You can enjoy this masterpiece on the Steam Deck and play for hours and hours. Just make sure you have your charger ready because this isn’t going to be a short play session.
So there you have it; what do you think of our list of the best Steam Deck games? Did we miss out on any of your favorites? We’re sure we did! Let us know on our social pages!
